Holiday Coffee Cake Recipe: A Sweet Treat for the Season

Updated: Jan 21

Hello, dear friends and fellow home enthusiasts! I'm Lainie Eilenberger, your trusted real estate expert in Lubbock, Texas, and West Texas. As we approach the holiday season, I wanted to share a delightful recipe that's been a family favorite for generations: Holiday Coffee Cake. This aromatic and mouthwatering treat is perfect for those cozy mornings or festive gatherings with loved ones. So, roll up your sleeves and let's get baking!

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Streusel Topping:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2-3 tbsp milk

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Add the softened butter, sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

For the Streusel Topping:

  1. In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon.

  2. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. If you're using nuts, fold them into the streusel mixture.

  3. Sprinkle the streusel evenly over the cake batter in the baking dish.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

For the Glaze:

  1. While the cake is baking, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  2. Once the cake is out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top.

Now, it's time to enjoy your freshly baked Holiday Coffee Cake! This delightful treat pairs perfectly with a warm cup of coffee or tea, making it a comforting addition to your holiday mornings.
